Project Management Oversight (PMO) Task Order No. 2 – Stamford Urban Transitway

Client: U.S. Department of Transportation Federal Transit Administration (FTA)
Location: Stamford, Connecticut
Cost:  $120 Million
Completion Date: April 2018

Anil Verma Associates, Inc. (AVA) is responsible to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) for the Project Management Oversight for the City of Stamford Urban Transitway Project being built by the city. AVA provides expertise in identifying issues and proactive recommendations on the design, construction, budget, schedule, system integration, and real estate acquisition challenges. This project is highly political with many challenges including right-of-way acquisition, business relocations, and a multi-year schedule delay, and the City faces a major challenge with an adversarial relationship with the contractor. The AVA team has provided valuable insight to the FTA and the grantee in dealing with these challenges.

Stamford Urban Transitway Project covers a four-to-six lane, one and three-quarter-mile connector road from Atlantic Street to East Main Street, and includes Bus/High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes, a bicycle way, sidewalks and landscaping, installation of traffic signals, and implementation of intelligent transportation systems (ITS). The project will reduce traffic congestion and improve transit flow to the Metro-North Stamford train stations, Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (ConnDOT) parking garage, and ConnDOT’s bus transfer facility.
