Los Angeles Trade Technical College was one of nine Los Angeles Community College District campuses undergoing extensive modernization under the $2.1B Proposition A / AA and $3.5B Measure J Bond Programs in order to accommodate increased student enrollment. The funding for LATTC includes $244M under Proposition A / AA Bond, $350M under the Measure J Bond Program, and $51M under non-bond funds. AVA is responsible for all design and construction phase project management services for LATTC.
AVA managed the design and construction of four major sustainable projects, including the LEED Silver Certified Building ‘A’ Modernization and Restoration Project (100,000 sq. ft.). The project was on an aggressive schedule to meet state imposed funding deadlines. It was transformed into a high-performance, extremely energy efficient modern building while maintaining its classified historic characteristics.
Building ‘A’ consists of three contiguous buildings constructed at different times from 1924 through 1935 and for multiple purposes. The building currently houses a historic theater, a classroom wing, and an administration building. The scope of work consists of remodeling and seismic upgrade of the existing 100,000 gross square foot building together with the addition of new north and south courtyards and utilities, including a structural upgrade of the existing Grand Avenue Theater.
In addition, Building ‘A’ is considered a Historic Resource Structure for the purposes of CEQA, which mandates the repair of any portion of Building ‘A’ to be conducted in a manner consistent with the Secretary of Interior’s Standards. The AVA management team closely monitors the project schedule and all historic compliance requirements throughout the duration of the project to meet critical deadlines
