Construction Manager

  • CONSTRUCTION MANAGER (STATIONS)

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Support management of Rail Transit Tunnel project. Act as Construction Manager overseeing the activities of Assistant Construction Managers, Office Engineers, Assistant Office Engineers, Lead Inspectors, Construction Inspectors, and Administrative/Project personnel. Monitor contractors’ work for compliance to schedule, Budget, Technical Specifications, and Legal Requirements. Resolve design and field construction problems. Attend progress meetings and reports on project status. Expedite design and field changes. Review contractor requests for change and, when appropriate, assist in the preparation of contract change orders/modifications. Assist the LACMTA Contracting Officer in the negotiation of contract changes. Communicate and implement safety rules, policies, and procedures in support of LACMTA’s safety vision and goals to contractors and subordinate personnel.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering or related field
    • At least fifteen (15) years of experience in Heavy Civil Construction with ten (10) years in construction of Rail Transit Projects with underground stations in urban areas.
    • Experience as a Resident Engineer or Construction Manager on transit projects of at least $100 million.
    • Cal-OSHA/OSHA 30 training certification at start of work
    • Registration as Professional Engineer or Architect is desirable.

    CONSTRUCTION MANAGER (DESIGN-BUILD SECTION 2)

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Support management of Rail Transit Tunnel project. Act as Construction Manager overseeing the activities of Assistant Construction Managers, Office Engineers, Assistant Office Engineers, Lead Inspectors, Construction Inspectors, and Administrative/Project personnel. Monitor contractors’ work for compliance to schedule, Budget, Technical Specifications, and Legal Requirements. Resolve design and field construction problems. Review contractor requests for change and, when appropriate, assist in the preparation of contract change orders/modifications.     Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or other related field.
    • Twenty (20) years of experience in Construction Management of Large Complex Heavy Civil Engineering projects with fifteen (15) years of experience in the construction of Transit Projects.
    • Five (5) years of supervisory experience in the management of Major Construction Contracts.
    • Valid California Class C driver’s license.
    • State of California Professional Engineering registration or ability to obtain within six (6) months.
    • Certified Construction Manager or Project Management certifications desirable.
    • Experience on Transit Projects of at least $100 million that included variable earth pressure balance or slurry TBM’s of a diameter greater than 15 feet, cut and cover station construction in an urban area, Sequential Excavation Method (SEM), and Track & Systems.
    • Cal-OSHA/OSHA 30 training certification at start of work on project

    CONSTRUCTION MANAGER (TUNNELS/SHAFTS)

    Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Support management of Rail Transit Tunnel project. Act as Construction Manager overseeing the activities of Assistant Construction Managers, Office Engineers, Assistant Office Engineers, Lead Inspectors, Construction Inspectors, and Administrative/Project personnel. Monitor contractors’ work for compliance to schedule, Budget, Technical Specifications, and Legal Requirements. Resolve design and field construction problems. Attend progress meetings and reports on project status. Expedite design and field changes. Review contractor requests for change and, when appropriate, assist in the preparation of contract change orders/modifications.     Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Geology, Engineering or related field
    • At least fifteen (15) years of experience in Heavy Civil Construction with ten (10) years of experience in Construction of Tunnels.
    • Two or more projects using Verifiable Earth Pressure Balance or Slurry TBMs of diameter greater than 15 ft. and Sequential Excavation Method (SEM).
    • Experience as a Resident Engineer or Construction Manager on transit projects of at least $100 million.
    • Cal-OSHA/OSHA 30 training certification at start of work on project
    • Certification of training on Title 8 Tunnel Safety Orders.
    • Registration as a Professional Engineer is desirable.
