AVA's Role
AVA was responsible for the design of two Mid-Tunnel ventilation structures, cross passages, portals, tunnel vent fans, crossover ancillary rooms, traction power and electrical room structures. AVA is also providing configuration management services.

Project Description
Final Engineering: AVA is responsible for the Architectural, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering Design for two Mid-Tunnel Ventilation Structures. One Tunnel Vent Structure has three fans and the second has two fans. Both have Electrical Switchgear, Substations and have Architectural challenges in Downtown San Jose, which are being addressed with the City and Community. AVA is also responsible for design of portal and other ancillary facilities.
This Silicon Valley Rapid Transit System project proposes to extend the current Heavy Rail Transportation Services provided by Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART), to Santa Clara in the Silicon Valley. From a proposed BART Station at Warm Springs in Fremont County, the northern sixteen (16) miles of electrified twin railway lines will be carried at grade on an existing 60’ wide freight line Right-of-Way terminating in Santa Clara. Just to the North of Alum Rock the Lines will pass underground via a Portal and proceed in twin tunnel configuration for approximately five (5) miles. In the tunnel section there will be three (3) Cut & cover Stations, sixty five (65) mined Cross Passages, two mid tunnel structures and other ancillary facilities. The Line terminates near San Jose Airport. From the terminus a People Mover will provide connection to the Airport.
AVA is a subconsultant to the Joint Venture Team of Hatch Mott MacDonald and Bechtel.
