Project Description
The contemporary building style of the Northwest Area Police Station combines elegance with efficiency. The design is asymmetrically repetitive, composed of an alternating pattern of flat panels and glazed walls. Centered on this pattern is a sculpted from designed to provide a unique identity within the surrounding context. Housed within this form is the Community Meeting Room whose broadly glazed façade and faceted roof present a welcoming beacon to the community. A large entry plaza shaded with oak trees and adorned with bronze artwork plaques serves as a transition from the street to the building’s entry. Proposition Q, Public Safety Facilities Bond Program passed by the voters on March 5, 2002, provided $600 Million to improve, renovate, expand and construct Police and Fire facilities. The new Northwest station is a modern, state-of-the-art facility which will be built with funds provided by Proposition Q. It will be the 21st community police station. This new station will provide police services to approximately 165,000 citizens in a 33 square mile area. The facility will be 51,828 square feet with an 8,283 square foot vehicle maintenance facility. There will be parking for 330 vehicles, including 28 spaces for visitors.
